CORONATION EVENT - Norwich Synagogue
Posted Mon, 04/24/2023 - 14:27 by Lazzaro
Norwich/Norfolk CCJ branch
Sunday 7th May - 3pm
at Norwich Synagogue, 3 Earlham Road. NR2 3RA
We are very grateful to the President and Members of the Synagogue for the invitation to join them for Tea on this Coronation Weekend.
We will be planting a Hazel sapling as a sign of the friendship between the Christian and Jewish communities in Norwich and Norfolk.
The Hazel sapling is one of many which is given by the bishop to each person in the Diocese of Norwich when they are confirmed - both as an encouragement to plant trees to help with the environment and in memory of Julian of Norwich.
Julian was a 14th century mystic and anchorite living though the Black Death and peasants’ revolt, a very turbulent time in the city’s history. She wrote ‘Revelations of Divine Love’, the earliest surviving work in English by a woman. The most famous quotation from this work is, ‘A hazelnut... I saw that this tiny thing had three properties that were essential to it. The first is that God made it; the second is that God loves it; the third, that God preserves it.’.
This event is inspired by the Coronation Bank Holiday community campaign, The Big Help Out
