CCJ statement on the passing of Archbishop GregoriosPosted Wed, 11/20/2019 - 15:55 by MCS
Archbishop Gregorios (1928-2019)
The Council of Christians and Jews wishes to share its condolences with the family of Archbishop Gregorios, former Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain, and with the entire Greek Orthodox community in the United Kingdom.
His Eminence Gregorios greatly enriched interfaith relations through his 30-year-long career as Archbishop. He was a tireless supporter of CCJ, serving as our President, and we fondly remember him attending our 75th anniversary dinner in 2018 at Lambeth Palace, among other key events. Most recently, CCJ Director Elizabeth Harris-Sawczenko attended a luncheon to mark the 30th anniversary of his consecration. The diversity of guests at that event was a mark of his ecumenical spirit and heart for interfaith relations.
CCJ is saddened by the Archbishop’s passing and gives thanks for his service.
