We believe that racism is abhorrent to both our traditionsPosted Wed, 06/03/2020 - 15:16 by MCS
As Christians and Jews we believe that racism is abhorrent to both our traditions. We share scripture which tells us of a God of justice who creates all people in God’s image. We celebrate Biblical stories of those who stood up against oppressors. We read of God’s call for us all to oppose prejudice. Therefore we condemn any attempt to use the Bible to silence those who highlight the scourge of racism in our societies.
Through a new CCJ project ‘Faith and Identity’ we are committed to listening to young BAME people of faith and to fighting racism. In bringing together theologians and activists in this project we seek to amplify BAME voices within Jewish and Christian communities. We grieve for those who have been lost, mourn with those who are bereaved, and stand with those who fear for their safety, and we pledge to build inter faith spaces which are inclusive for all.
