CCJ statement on Church of England General Synod

On the 12th and  13th of July, the General Synod of the Church of England extensively debated a motion involving the Kairos II document. We are grateful to all those who spoke up for raising awareness of the impact this motion has had and the deep concern it raises amongst the Jewish community in the UK, alongside extremely problematic language and assumptions.

CCJ statement on the stabbing in Golders Green

We are aware that two people have been stabbed in Golders Green earlier today. It is believed that visibly Jewish people were intentionally targeted by the attacker. This is abhorrent and we pray for the victims, their families and the wider community. Read more

CCJ statement on the attempted attack on Finchley Reform Synagogue

The attack on Finchley Reform Synagogue is another despicable antisemitic incident in an increasingly alarming environment for Britain’s Jewish community. We are grateful to the police and CST for their efforts in securing the area and apprehending two suspects.

CCJ statement on the arson attack on Hatzola ambulances

We at CCJ are horrified by the news of the arson attack on four Hatzola ambulances in Golders Green, London, last night.

Hatzola is a completely voluntary Jewish ambulance service, and this antisemitic attack is yet another assault on the Jewish community.

CCJ Statement on comments made by the Archbishop of York

Yesterday the Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, shared his reflections on a recent visit to Palestinian territories, including the West Bank and East Jerusalem. He movingly shared the traumatic experience and testimony of Palestinian Christians he met in the West Bank and occupied territories. We are alarmed that violence against Palestinians in the West Bank has risen in recent months.

CCJ Awards James Leek Prize to Deanna Van der Velde

The Council of Christians and Jews has honoured educator and community leader Deanna Van der Velde with its James Leek Award. The award, which is given to a deserving member of CCJ who has shown special leadership, was presented at CCJ’s annual general meeting on Tuesday, held in Manchester. 

CCJ Bridge Award 2025 presented to Cardinal Pizzaballa

At a ceremony in Rome, the Council of Christians and Jews has awarded its annual award to His Beatitude Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem.
